In value terms, tamping machinery exports soared to $X in 2021. In general, exports saw prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 129%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Russia (X units) was the main destination for tamping machinery exports from Belarus, accounting for a 73% share of total exports. Moreover, tamping machinery exports to Russia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Moldova (X units), fourfold. Ukraine (X units) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 4.7% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Russia stood at +7.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Moldova (0.0% per year) and Ukraine (+17.0% per year).

In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the key foreign market for tamping or compacting machinery exports from Belarus, comprising 80% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Ukraine ($X), with a 9.5% share of total exports. It was followed by Moldova, with an 8.8% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Russia stood at +10.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Ukraine (+56.5% per year) and Moldova (0.0% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the average tamping machinery export price amounted to $X per unit, declining by -2.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 37%. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2020, and then reduced modestly in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Ukraine ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Lithuania ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Russia (+2.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

In 2021, purchases abroad of tamping or compacting machinery decreased by -21.3% to X units, falling for the second year in a row after three years of growth. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 223% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, tamping machinery imports reduced rapidly to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, enjoyed a prominent expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 116%. Imports peaked at $X in 2020, and then dropped rapidly in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2021, China (X units) constituted the largest tamping machinery supplier to Belarus, with a 60% share of total imports. Moreover, tamping machinery imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Russia (X units), threefold. Japan (X units) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 3.9% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China stood at +4.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Russia (+47.7% per year) and Japan (+59.1% per year).

In value terms, Russia ($X), China ($X) and Germany ($X) appeared to be the largest tamping machinery suppliers to Belarus, together comprising 65% of total imports. These countries were followed by Bulgaria, Japan and Poland, which together accounted for a further 12%.

Among the main suppliers, Japan, with a CAGR of +78.1%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the average tamping machinery import price amounted to $X per unit, dropping by -11.9% against the previous year. In general, the import price saw a mild setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the average import price increased by 62% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $X per unit in 2020, and then contracted in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per unit), while the price for China ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Bulgaria (+6.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
