Unmanufactured Tobacco Market Size in Belarus

The Belarusian unmanufactured tobacco market skyrocketed to $X in 2022, growing by 22% against the previous year. Imports into Belarus

In 2022, unmanufactured tobacco imports into Belarus skyrocketed to X tons, with an increase of 24% against 2021. Overall, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 86%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, unmanufactured tobacco imports surged to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, showed a perceptible setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 115% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Ukraine (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of unmanufactured tobacco to Belarus, with a 27% share of total imports. Moreover, unmanufactured tobacco imports from Ukraine exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Azerbaijan (X tons), twofold. Brazil (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 9.4% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Ukraine amounted to +16.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Azerbaijan (+9.4% per year) and Brazil (-5.0% per year).

In value terms, Ukraine ($X) constituted the largest supplier of tobacco (unmanufactured) to Belarus, comprising 41% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Azerbaijan ($X), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by India, with a 5.4% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Ukraine totaled +11.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Azerbaijan (+4.1% per year) and India (-8.8% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The average unmanufactured tobacco import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, shrinking by -3.4% against the previous year. Overall, the import price saw a perceptible downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the average import price increased by 16% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Lebanon ($X per ton), while the price for Poland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Lebanon (+6.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
