In 2021, the Belarusian non-propelled vehicle market decreased by -44.7% to $X for the first time since 2015, thus ending a five-year rising trend. In value terms, non-propelled vehicle exports reduced notably to $X in 2021. In general, total exports indicated a noticeable expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.3% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when exports increased by 85% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2020, and then declined remarkably in the following year.

Russia (X units) was the main destination for non-propelled vehicle exports from Belarus, accounting for a 81% share of total exports. Moreover, non-propelled vehicle exports to Russia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Lithuania (X units), more than tenfold. The third position in this ranking was held by Ukraine (X units), with a 3.8% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Russia totaled +20.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Lithuania (+51.9% per year) and Ukraine (+30.7% per year).

In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the key foreign market for non-propelled vehicle exports from Belarus, comprising 80% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Lithuania ($X), with a 6% share of total exports. It was followed by Kazakhstan, with a 3.9% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to Russia totaled +4.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Lithuania (+32.4% per year) and Kazakhstan (+20.4% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The average non-propelled vehicle export price stood at $X per unit in 2021, surging by 2.5% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a abrupt curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when the average export price increased by 28% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Lithuania ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Uzbekistan ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Bulgaria (+454.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

In 2021, after five years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas purchases of vehicles not mechanically propelled, when their volume decreased by -51.5% to X units. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a resilient expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 127% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X units in 2020, and then dropped remarkably in the following year.

In value terms, non-propelled vehicle imports shrank remarkably to $X in 2021. Overall, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 85% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Russia (X units), Poland (X units) and China (X units) were the main suppliers of non-propelled vehicle imports to Belarus, with a combined 71% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Russia (with a CAGR of +28.3%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
