In 2022, exports of welded and cold-formed sections of steel from Belarus skyrocketed to X tons, rising by 324% against 2021. In general, exports recorded notable growth. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, welded and cold-formed steel sections exports soared to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports recorded resilient growth. The exports peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Russia (X tons) was the main destination for welded and cold-formed steel sections exports from Belarus, with a 67% share of total exports. Moreover, welded and cold-formed steel sections exports to Russia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Poland (X tons), threefold.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Russia stood at +7.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Poland (-4.6% per year) and Ukraine (+10.8% per year).
In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the key foreign market for welded and cold-formed sections of steel exports from Belarus, comprising 64% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Ukraine ($X), with a 22% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Russia stood at +6.2%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Ukraine (+12.4% per year) and Poland (+1.0% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the average export price for welded and cold-formed sections of steel amounted to $X per ton, surging by 12% against the previous year. Over the period under review, export price indicated tangible growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, welded and cold-formed steel sections export price increased by +12.0% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 44%. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Ukraine ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Poland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Poland (+5.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
Imports of Welded And Cold-Formed Sections Of Steel
Imports into Belarus
In 2022, overseas purchases of welded and cold-formed sections of steel decreased by -86.8% to X tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Overall, imports faced a precipitous contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 56% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, welded and cold-formed steel sections imports shrank notably to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a precipitous curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 125%. Imports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Russia (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of welded and cold-formed steel sections to Belarus, accounting for a 87% share of total imports. Moreover, welded and cold-formed steel sections imports from Russia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Switzerland (X tons), more than tenfold. The third position in this ranking was held by China (X kg), with a 2.8% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Russia totaled -27.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Switzerland (+4.1% per year) and China (-26.4% per year).
In value terms, Russia ($X) constituted the largest supplier of welded and cold-formed sections of steel to Belarus, comprising 70% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Switzerland ($X), with a 19% share of total imports. It was followed by China, with a 2.9% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Russia amounted to -21.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Switzerland (+4.5% per year) and China (-27.3% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average import price for welded and cold-formed sections of steel stood at $X per ton in 2022, jumping by 51% against the previous year. Overall, the import price enjoyed buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the average import price increased by 87% against the previous year. The import price peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($X per ton), while the price for Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Russia (+7.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
