After two years of growth, the Belarusian wood chips and particles market decreased by -0.7% to $X in 2022. In general, consumption, however, showed a perceptible slump. The exports peaked at X cubic meters in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, wood chips and particles exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports recorded a strong increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when exports increased by 137%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Poland (X cubic meters) was the main destination for wood chips and particles exports from Belarus, accounting for a 49% share of total exports. Moreover, wood chips and particles exports to Poland exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Lithuania (X cubic meters), twofold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Latvia (X cubic meters), with a 15% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Poland totaled +13.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Lithuania (+24.3% per year) and Latvia (+42.0% per year).
In value terms, Poland ($X), Lithuania ($X) and Latvia ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for wood chips and particles exported from Belarus worldwide, together comprising 86% of total exports. Sweden, Romania, Denmark and Finland lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 13%.
Romania, with a CAGR of +200.4%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average wood chips and particles export price stood at $X per cubic meter in 2022, declining by -4.5% against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw a perceptible decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 32%. The export price peaked at $X per cubic meter in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Romania ($X per cubic meter), while the average price for exports to Latvia ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Romania (+8.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Wood Chips And Particles
Imports into Belarus
In 2022, the amount of wood chips and particles imported into Belarus dropped to X cubic meters, waning by -8.8% against the previous year. In general, imports, however, saw prominent growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 103%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X cubic meters. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, wood chips and particles imports shrank markedly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports showed a pronounced downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 39%. Imports peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
Poland (X cubic meters), Russia (X cubic meters) and Ukraine (X cubic meters) were the main suppliers of wood chips and particles imports to Belarus, with a combined 97% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Ukraine (with a CAGR of +77.1%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Poland ($X), Russia ($X) and Ukraine ($X) were the largest wood chips and particles suppliers to Belarus, with a combined 85% share of total imports.
In terms of the main suppliers, Ukraine, with a CAGR of +42.6%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average wood chips and particles import price stood at $X per cubic meter in 2022, with a decrease of -26.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price faced a deep downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the average import price increased by 32% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per cubic meter in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per cubic meter), while the price for Russia ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+1.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
