Woven Carpet Market Size in Belarus

The Belarusian woven carpet market soared to $X in 2022, jumping by 64% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption enjoyed strong growth. As a result, consumption attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, woven carpet exports shrank to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a pronounced increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +27.6% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 33% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X, and then fell modestly in the following year.

Exports by Country

Russia (X square meters) was the main destination for woven carpet exports from Belarus, with a 91% share of total exports. Moreover, woven carpet exports to Russia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Ukraine (X square meters), more than tenfold. Kazakhstan (X square meters) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 2.1% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Russia totaled +5.5%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Ukraine (+27.4% per year) and Kazakhstan (+5.7% per year).

In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the key foreign market for woven carpets and other woven textile coverings exports from Belarus, comprising 88% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Ukraine ($X), with a 4.1% share of total exports. It was followed by Kazakhstan, with a 2.7% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Russia amounted to +3.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Ukraine (+23.6% per year) and Kazakhstan (+5.9% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The average woven carpet export price stood at $X per square meter in 2022, growing by 48% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a mild decrease. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $X per square meter in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied somewhat for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the countries with the highest prices were Moldova ($X per square meter) and Kazakhstan ($X per square meter), while the average price for exports to Russia ($X per square meter) and Ukraine ($X per square meter) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Moldova (+2.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into Belarus

In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in purchases abroad of woven carpets and other woven textile coverings, when their volume decreased by -41.1% to X square meters. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 145% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X square meters in 2021, and then declined sharply in the following year.

In value terms, woven carpet imports declined to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, posted a resilient expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 90% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2021, and then shrank in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Turkey (X square meters) constituted the largest supplier of woven carpet to Belarus, accounting for a 63% share of total imports. Moreover, woven carpet imports from Turkey exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Iran (X square meters), fivefold. China (X square meters) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 6.5% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Turkey stood at +31.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Iran (+215.6% per year) and China (+56.3% per year).

In value terms, Turkey ($X) constituted the largest supplier of woven carpets and other woven textile coverings to Belarus, comprising 60% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Iran ($X), with a 14% share of total imports. It was followed by Moldova, with an 8.7% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Turkey stood at +25.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Iran (+181.8% per year) and Moldova (+45.7% per year).

The average woven carpet import price stood at $X per square meter in 2022, picking up by 46% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a pronounced slump. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $X per square meter in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($X per square meter), while the price for China ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.
