In value terms, woolen yarn exports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, exports recorded a prominent increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when exports increased by 164% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
Exports by Country
Russia (X tons) was the main destination for woolen yarn exports from Belarus, accounting for a 97% share of total exports. It was followed by Lithuania (X tons), with a 2.5% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Russia amounted to +31.5%.
In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the key foreign market for yarn of wool exports from Belarus, comprising 91% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Lithuania ($X), with a 5.9% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Russia stood at +17.1%.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the average woolen yarn export price amounted to $X per ton, declining by -4.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price faced a deep contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the average export price increased by 43% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Lithuania ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Russia amounted to $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Russia (-10.9%).
Woolen Yarn Imports
Imports into Belarus
Woolen yarn imports into Belarus skyrocketed to X tons in 2021, surging by 23% compared with 2020. Over the period under review, imports recorded a remarkable increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 126%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, woolen yarn imports amounted to $X in 2021. Overall, imports continue to indicate a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 94%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
Italy (X tons), China (X tons) and Turkey (X tons) were the main suppliers of woolen yarn imports to Belarus, with a combined 85% share of total imports. Russia, Germany, Norway and Peru lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 12%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Norway (with a CAGR of +253.0%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Italy ($X) constituted the largest supplier of yarn of wool to Belarus, comprising 46% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by China ($X), with a 19% share of total imports. It was followed by Germany, with a 10% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Italy stood at +30.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (+45.0% per year) and Germany (+6.3% per year).

In 2021, the average woolen yarn import price amounted to $X per ton, dropping by -17.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a pronounced setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 18% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2021, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the price for China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (-2.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
