From 2021 to 2022, production of growth remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In general, the yield continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. In general, exports, however, posted a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 483% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports of hit record highs at X tons in 2021, and then fell sharply in the following year.
In value terms, exports of coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres contracted dramatically to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, posted a resilient expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 314%. Over the period under review, the exports of hit record highs at $X in 2021, and then declined significantly in the following year.
Exports by Country
The Netherlands (X tons) was the main destination for exports of coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres from Belgium, accounting for a 86% share of total exports. Moreover, exports of coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres to the Netherlands exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Germany (X tons), more than tenfold. France (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 3.6% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to the Netherlands stood at +76.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Germany (+3.3% per year) and France (+7.5% per year).
In value terms, the Netherlands ($X) remains the key foreign market for coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres exports from Belgium, comprising 79% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Germany ($X), with an 8.7% share of total exports. It was followed by France, with a 6.2% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to the Netherlands totaled +60.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Germany (-7.4% per year) and France (+2.2% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The average export price for coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres stood at $X per ton in 2022, dropping by -2.9% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw a abrupt curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the average export price increased by 61%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2016 to 2022, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Slovenia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Poland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Slovenia (+4.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in purchases abroad of coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres, when their volume decreased by -32% to X tons. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a buoyant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 130% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2021, and then dropped significantly in the following year.
In value terms, imports of coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres reduced dramatically to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, showed a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 78% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2021, and then dropped remarkably in the following year.
Imports by Country
In 2022, India (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibre to Belgium, accounting for a 72% share of total imports. Moreover, imports of coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres from India exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Sri Lanka (X tons), sixfold. The Netherlands (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with an 11% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from India amounted to +30.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Sri Lanka (-0.7% per year) and the Netherlands (+28.6% per year).
In value terms, India ($X) constituted the largest supplier of coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres to Belgium, comprising 62% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Kenya ($X), with a 17% share of total imports. It was followed by Sri Lanka, with a 13% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from India stood at +37.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Kenya (+5.6% per year) and Sri Lanka (-0.9% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average import price for coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres stood at $X per ton in 2022, with an increase of 16% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a pronounced downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 46% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the price for the Netherlands ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by India (+5.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
