Germany (X tons) was the main destination for coffee extract exports from Belgium, with a 66% share of total exports. Moreover, coffee extract exports to Germany exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the Netherlands (X tons), sixfold. The UK (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with an 8.2% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Germany totaled -3.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the Netherlands (+5.3% per year) and the UK (+32.5% per year).
In value terms, Germany ($X) remains the key foreign market for coffee extracts, essences and concentrates exports from Belgium, comprising 61% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the Netherlands ($X), with a 12% share of total exports. It was followed by the UK, with a 10% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to Germany totaled -6.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the Netherlands (-0.3% per year) and the UK (+25.7% per year).

In 2021, the average coffee extract export price amounted to $X per ton, rising by 5.7% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a perceptible decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the average export price increased by 9.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Luxembourg ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Spain ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Spain (+5.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Belgium
In 2021, overseas purchases of coffee extracts, essences and concentrates increased by 14% to X tons, rising for the fourth year in a row after three years of decline. Overall, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 22% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, coffee extract imports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a slight contraction. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
The Netherlands (X tons), Germany (X tons) and France (X tons) were the main suppliers of coffee extract imports to Belgium, together accounting for 62% of total imports. Poland, the UK, India, Colombia, Spain and Brazil lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 24%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by India (with a CAGR of +25.9%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest coffee extract suppliers to Belgium were Germany ($X), France ($X) and the Netherlands ($X), with a combined 61% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Poland, Colombia, the UK, India, Spain and Brazil, which together accounted for a further 28%.
