The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 32% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X, and then reduced in the following year.

France (X cubic meters), the Netherlands (X cubic meters) and the UK (X cubic meters) were the main destinations of fiberboard exports from Belgium, together accounting for 43% of total exports. Sweden, Italy, the United States, Spain, Germany, Poland, Australia, Malaysia, Israel and Norway lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 39%.

After three years of growth, overseas purchases of fiber board of wood or other ligneous materials decreased by -13.8% to X cubic meters in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, enjoyed strong growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 276% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X cubic meters in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.
In value terms, fiberboard imports fell slightly to $X in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a moderate expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +51.0% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 52%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then contracted modestly in the following year.

In 2022, France (X cubic meters) constituted the largest supplier of fiberboard to Belgium, with a 56% share of total imports. Moreover, fiberboard imports from France exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Germany (X cubic meters), threefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by the Netherlands (X cubic meters), with a 15% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from France stood at +10.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (+3.5% per year) and the Netherlands (+15.4% per year).
In value terms, France ($X) constituted the largest supplier of fiber board of wood or other ligneous materials to Belgium, comprising 60% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Germany ($X), with a 15% share of total imports. It was followed by the Netherlands, with a 7.7% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from France stood at +5.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (-2.6% per year) and the Netherlands (+3.5% per year).

The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when the average import price increased by 55%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per cubic meter. There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Luxembourg ($X per cubic meter), while the price for the Netherlands ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Luxembourg (+1.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
