For the third year in a row, the Belgian soft drink market recorded decline in sales value, which decreased by -5.3% to $X in 2021. Overall, consumption showed a slight reduction. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of the market failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, soft drink production shrank modestly to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, the total production indicated a prominent increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +9.6% over the last nine years. For the third consecutive year, Belgium recorded growth in shipments abroad of soft drinks, which increased by 4.9% to X litres in 2021. Over the period under review, exports recorded a prominent increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 120% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, soft drink exports declined to $X in 2021. In general, total exports indicated a mild increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.4% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +59.7% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 67%. The exports peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

The Netherlands (X litres), France (X litres) and the UK (X litres) were the main destinations of soft drink exports from Belgium, with a combined 66% share of total exports. Luxembourg, Germany, Sweden and Nigeria lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 19%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Sweden (with a CAGR of +21.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for soft drink exported from Belgium were the Netherlands ($X), the UK ($X) and France ($X), together accounting for 58% of total exports. These countries were followed by Luxembourg, Germany, Sweden and Nigeria, which together accounted for a further 21%.
Sweden, with a CAGR of +11.4%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the average soft drink export price amounted to $X per litre, declining by -9% against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw a abrupt slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 an increase of 10% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $X per litre in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Nigeria ($X per litre), while the average price for exports to France ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Netherlands (-3.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

In 2021, supplies from abroad of soft drinks increased by 10% to X litres, rising for the third consecutive year after two years of decline. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 65%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, soft drink imports reached $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.0% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 21%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.

The Netherlands (X litres), France (X litres) and Germany (X litres) were the main suppliers of soft drink imports to Belgium, with a combined 78% share of total imports. Austria, Italy, Turkey and Portugal lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 16%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Portugal (with a CAGR of +65.6%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the Netherlands ($X), Austria ($X) and France ($X) constituted the largest soft drink suppliers to Belgium, with a combined 72% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Germany, Italy, Turkey and Portugal, which together accounted for a further 21%.

The average soft drink import price stood at $X per litre in 2021, falling by -5.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a noticeable downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 12% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per litre. From 2015 to 2021, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Austria ($X per litre), while the price for France ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.
