After two years of growth, the Belgian nutmeg, mace and cardamom market decreased by -23.4% to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, consumption saw a abrupt contraction. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2021, and then contracted notably in the following year.

The Netherlands (X tons), France (X tons) and Germany (X tons) were the main destinations of nutmeg, mace and cardamom exports from Belgium, with a combined 75% share of total exports. Democratic Republic of the Congo, the UK, Portugal, Poland and Spain lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 21%.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Poland (with a CAGR of +76.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2021, and then plummeted in the following year.

In value terms, nutmeg, mace and cardamom imports shrank markedly to $X in 2022. In general, imports showed a abrupt slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 41% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Moreover, nutmeg, mace and cardamom imports from the Netherlands exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Indonesia (X tons), sixfold. Germany (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with an 8.1% share.
