In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of prefabricated buildings, when their volume decreased by -13.3% to X units. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.7% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 32% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X units, and then shrank in the following year.
In value terms, prefabricated buildings exports dropped to $X in 2022. In general, total exports indicated a notable expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +85.0% against 2016 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 53% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X, and then dropped in the following year.

France (X units), the Netherlands (X units) and Germany (X units) were the main destinations of prefabricated buildings exports from Belgium, with a combined 82% share of total exports. The UK, Spain, Italy and Luxembourg lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 6.4%.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Italy (with a CAGR of +17.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, France ($X), Germany ($X) and the Netherlands ($X) constituted the largest markets for prefabricated buildings exported from Belgium worldwide, together accounting for 69% of total exports. The UK, Luxembourg, Spain and Italy lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 8.8%.
Among the main countries of destination, the UK, with a CAGR of +20.5%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 16% against the previous year. The export price peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Luxembourg ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to the Netherlands ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

After two years of growth, purchases abroad of prefabricated buildings decreased by -17.9% to X units in 2022. Overall, imports recorded a pronounced downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 11%. Imports peaked at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, prefabricated buildings imports shrank significantly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a mild reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 29%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then fell markedly in the following year.
Imports by Country
In 2022, the Netherlands (X units) constituted the largest supplier of prefabricated buildings to Belgium, with a 31% share of total imports. Moreover, prefabricated buildings imports from the Netherlands exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Austria (X units), twofold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Israel (X units), with a 7.1% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from the Netherlands amounted to -9.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Austria (+31.6% per year) and Israel (+14.4% per year).
In value terms, the largest prefabricated buildings suppliers to Belgium were the Netherlands ($X), France ($X) and Israel ($X), together comprising 40% of total imports. The Czech Republic, Germany, Austria, Turkey, Italy, the UK, Slovenia, Estonia, Poland and China lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 46%.
In terms of the main suppliers, Turkey, with a CAGR of +68.4%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average prefabricated buildings import price amounted to $X per unit, waning by -10.7% against the previous year. Overall, import price indicated a notable expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, prefabricated buildings import price increased by +42.9% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the average import price increased by 17%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per unit, and then declined in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per unit), while the price for Poland ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the UK (+10.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
