Refrigerated Show-Cases Market Size in Belgium

The Belgian refrigerated show-cases market dropped remarkably to $X in 2022, falling by -33.6% against the previous year. Overall, consumption, however, showed a notable expansion. Refrigerated show-cases consumption peaked at $X in 2021, and then contracted markedly in the following year.

In value terms, refrigerated show-cases exports contracted remarkably to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a slight expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 74%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X, and then contracted dramatically in the following year.

Exports by Country

France (X units) was the main destination for refrigerated show-cases exports from Belgium, accounting for a 59% share of total exports. Moreover, refrigerated show-cases exports to France exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the Netherlands (X units), sixfold. The third position in this ranking was held by Luxembourg (X units), with an 8.6% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to France stood at +5.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the Netherlands (+13.2% per year) and Luxembourg (+9.0% per year).

In value terms, France ($X) remains the key foreign market for refrigerated show-caseses exports from Belgium, comprising 66% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the Netherlands ($X), with an 11% share of total exports. It was followed by Luxembourg, with a 3.1% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to France stood at +4.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the Netherlands (+8.1% per year) and Luxembourg (+0.1% per year).

In 2022, the average refrigerated show-cases export price amounted to $X per unit, which is down by -19.4% against the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a slight decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when the average export price increased by 55%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per unit, and then shrank notably in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Luxembourg ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

Imports into Belgium

In 2022, after six years of growth, there was significant decline in supplies from abroad of refrigerated show-caseses, when their volume decreased by -48.6% to X units. In general, imports, however, posted a strong expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 64% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X units in 2021, and then dropped significantly in the following year.

In value terms, refrigerated show-cases imports declined sharply to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 66% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then declined notably in the following year.

Imports by Country

Italy (X units), Spain (X units) and China (X units) were the main suppliers of refrigerated show-cases imports to Belgium, with a combined 49% share of total imports. Turkey, the Netherlands, Denmark, Hungary, Portugal, Austria, Germany, Poland, France and Slovakia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 47%.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Hungary (with a CAGR of +33.8%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Italy ($X), Spain ($X) and Austria ($X) constituted the largest refrigerated show-cases suppliers to Belgium, with a combined 43% share of total imports. Portugal, China, Turkey, the Netherlands, Denmark, Hungary, Poland, Germany, France and Slovakia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 52%.

Poland, with a CAGR of +19.4%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The average refrigerated show-cases import price stood at $X per unit in 2022, increasing by 18% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a noticeable downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when the average import price increased by 23% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2014 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Austria ($X per unit), while the price for Slovakia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+3.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
