In value terms, spinach exports reduced rapidly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports recorded a perceptible setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when exports increased by 222% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

The Netherlands (X tons) was the main destination for spinach exports from Belgium, accounting for a 62% share of total exports. Moreover, spinach exports to the Netherlands exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, France (X tons), twofold.

In general, total imports indicated noticeable growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -31.9% against 2020 indices. In 2022, France (X tons) constituted the largest spinach supplier to Belgium, with a 71% share of total imports. Moreover, spinach imports from France exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the Netherlands (X tons), fourfold. Spain (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 4.8% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from France totaled +23.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the Netherlands (-10.4% per year) and Spain (+11.1% per year).

In value terms, the Netherlands ($X) constituted the largest supplier of spinach to Belgium, comprising 57% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Spain ($X), with a 16% share of total imports. It was followed by France, with a 15% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from the Netherlands was relatively modest. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Spain (+9.0% per year) and France (+21.9% per year).
