The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when exports increased by 26%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons, and then declined in the following year.
In value terms, uncooked pasta exports reached $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +3.2% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 30%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

The Netherlands (X tons), France (X tons) and the UK (X tons) were the main destinations of uncooked pasta exports from Belgium, with a combined 72% share of total exports. Germany, Ireland, Luxembourg and Italy lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 19%.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Luxembourg ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Germany ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Netherlands (+1.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Belgium
In 2021, purchases abroad of uncooked pasta decreased by -9.1% to X tons for the first time since 2015, thus ending a five-year rising trend. Overall, total imports indicated temperate growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +44.1% against 2015 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 33% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons, and then shrank in the following year.
In value terms, uncooked pasta imports fell modestly to $X in 2021. In general, total imports indicated a moderate expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.1% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +53.6% against 2015 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 31% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, leveling off in the following year.

In 2021, Italy (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of uncooked pasta to Belgium, with a 63% share of total imports. Moreover, uncooked pasta imports from Italy exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the Netherlands (X tons), sevenfold. Turkey (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 7.9% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from Italy amounted to +7.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the Netherlands (+11.7% per year) and Turkey (+16.2% per year).
In value terms, Italy ($X) constituted the largest supplier of uncooked pasta to Belgium, comprising 58% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by the Netherlands ($X), with a 14% share of total imports. It was followed by Germany, with a 7.3% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Italy stood at +7.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the Netherlands (+16.7% per year) and Germany (-5.1% per year).

In 2021, the average uncooked pasta import price amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 9.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a slight expansion. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the price for Turkey ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
