Germany (X tons), France (X tons) and the Netherlands (X tons) were the main destinations of wood charcoal exports from Belgium, with a combined 84% share of total exports. Luxembourg, Spain, Ireland and Poland lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 14%.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Ireland ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Poland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (+1.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, purchases abroad of wood charcoal decreased by -31.4% to X tons, falling for the fifth year in a row after two years of growth. In general, imports saw a deep slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 42%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, wood charcoal imports fell to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 45%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Ukraine (X tons), Indonesia (X tons) and the Netherlands (X tons) were the main suppliers of wood charcoal imports to Belgium, together comprising 58% of total imports. These countries were followed by Germany, Russia, Belarus, Nigeria, China, Paraguay, France, Poland, Luxembourg and India, which together accounted for a further 34%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Belarus (with a CAGR of +1,050.7%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Indonesia ($X), Ukraine ($X) and the Netherlands ($X) constituted the largest wood charcoal suppliers to Belgium, together comprising 61% of total imports.
