Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.
Exports by Country
France (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons) and Luxembourg (X tons) were the main destinations of wrapping papers exports from Belgium, with a combined 53% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Germany, the United States, China, Turkey, India, Egypt and Nigeria, which together accounted for a further 35%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for the United States (with a CAGR of +68.2%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for wrapping papers exported from Belgium were France ($X), Luxembourg ($X) and Germany ($X), together accounting for 57% of total exports. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when the average export price increased by 24%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2016 to 2021, the average export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Luxembourg ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Nigeria (+3.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into Belgium
In 2021, approx. X tons of wrapping paper, packaging paper and paperboard were imported into Belgium; dropping by -3.1% against the previous year. In general, total imports indicated noticeable growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.7% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +78.0% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 84% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons, and then dropped in the following year.
In value terms, wrapping papers imports amounted to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a noticeable expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 71% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
Imports by Country
France (X tons), Finland (X tons) and Sweden (X tons) were the main suppliers of wrapping papers imports to Belgium, with a combined 57% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Finland (with a CAGR of +13.8%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Finland ($X), France ($X) and Sweden ($X) appeared to be the largest wrapping papers suppliers to Belgium, together accounting for 55% of total imports.
Among the main suppliers, Finland, with a CAGR of +15.0%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Finland (+1.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
