Aircraft Market Size in Benelux

The Benelux aircraft market surged to $X in 2022, increasing by 27% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption, however, continues to indicate a perceptible setback. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

Aircraft Production in Benelux

In value terms, aircraft production dropped modestly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production, however, recorded a resilient expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 392,299,500% against the previous year. Over the period under review, production reached the maximum level at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports in Benelux

Aircraft exports dropped remarkably to X units in 2022, falling by -59.9% against 2021 figures. In general, exports, however, enjoyed a significant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when exports increased by 259% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X units in 2021, and then shrank remarkably in the following year.

In value terms, aircraft exports reduced remarkably to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, posted a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 159%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2021, and then shrank sharply in the following year.

Exports by Country

The Netherlands was the main exporting country with an export of around X units, which resulted at 74% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Belgium (X units), comprising a 25% share of total exports.

The Netherlands was also the fastest-growing in terms of the airplanes and other aircraft exports, with a CAGR of +30.9% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Belgium (+17.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. From 2012 to 2022, the share of the Netherlands increased by +23 percentage points.

In value terms, the Netherlands ($X) remains the largest aircraft supplier in Benelux, comprising 95% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Belgium ($X), with a 2.5% share of total exports.

In the Netherlands, aircraft exports increased at an average annual rate of +12.1% over the period from 2012-2022.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Benelux stood at $X per unit in 2022, jumping by 51% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a abrupt slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 an increase of 99%. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per unit), while Belgium totaled $X per unit.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (-14.4%).

Imports in Benelux

In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in supplies from abroad of airplanes and other aircraft, when their volume decreased by -83.5% to X units. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 236%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X units in 2021, and then declined significantly in the following year.

In value terms, aircraft imports declined sharply to $X in 2022. In general, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 637% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then contracted notably in the following year.

Imports by Country

The Netherlands prevails in imports structure, amounting to X units, which was approx. 89% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Belgium (X units), committing a 7.6% share of total imports. Luxembourg (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

The Netherlands was also the fastest-growing in terms of the airplanes and other aircraft imports, with a CAGR of +16.5% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Luxembourg (+1.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Belgium (-7.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. The Netherlands (+40 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Luxembourg and Belgium saw its share reduced by -4.6% and -35.3% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.

In value terms, the Netherlands ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported airplanes and other aircraft in Benelux, comprising 87% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Belgium ($X), with a 7.7% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in the Netherlands stood at +2.5%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Belgium (-13.7% per year) and Luxembourg (+0.9% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Benelux stood at $X per unit in 2022, declining by -51.6% against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a deep downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 353%. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Luxembourg ($X per unit), while the Netherlands ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Luxembourg (-0.3%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
