Total exports indicated modest growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.4% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +59.9% against 2016 indices. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Belgium was the largest exporting country with an export of about X tons, which amounted to 47% of total exports. The Netherlands (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 29% share, followed by Luxembourg (24%).

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by Belgium (with a CAGR of +4.2%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.

In 2021, supplies from abroad of aluminium foil decreased by -8% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Total imports indicated a mild expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +44.0% against 2016 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 28% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons, and then dropped in the following year.

In value terms, aluminium foil imports surged to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated modest growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.2% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +63.5% against 2016 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 17%. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

Belgium (X tons) and the Netherlands (X tons) dominates imports structure, together achieving 98% of total imports. Luxembourg (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Luxembourg (with a CAGR of +8.2%), while imports for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.

Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
