In Belgium, animal fats exports increased at an average annual rate of +15.1% over the period from 2012-2021.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Benelux amounted to $X per ton, surging by 25% against the previous year. Export price indicated a resilient expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +10.3% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, animal fats export price increased by +49.9% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when the export price increased by 37%. In 2021, the amount of animal fats and oils imported in Benelux dropped remarkably to X tons, with a decrease of -71% on the previous year. Overall, imports recorded a abrupt contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 96%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, animal fats imports contracted notably to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate modest growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 140% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

The Netherlands was also the fastest-growing in terms of the animal fats and oils imports, with a CAGR of -5.4% from 2012 to 2021. Belgium (-29.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of the Netherlands (+57 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Belgium (-57.7 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
