In 2022, the Netherlands (X tons) was the main exporter of articles of stationery, making up 71% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Belgium (X tons), generating a 29% share of total exports.

The Netherlands was also the fastest-growing in terms of the articles of stationery exports, with a CAGR of +1.3% from 2012 to 2022. Belgium (-2.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of the Netherlands (+9.9 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Belgium (-8.5 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In 2022, the export price in Benelux amounted to $X per ton, waning by -3.8% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. Stationery imports dropped modestly to X tons in 2022, with a decrease of -2.3% compared with 2021 figures. In general, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 10%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, stationery imports contracted to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 18% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then fell in the following year.

Imports by Country

The Netherlands was the key importing country with an import of about X tons, which resulted at 78% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Belgium (X tons), mixing up a 20% share of total imports. Luxembourg (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

The Netherlands was also the fastest-growing in terms of the articles of stationery imports, with a CAGR of +2.5% from 2012 to 2022. Belgium (-4.7%) and Luxembourg (-4.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of the Netherlands increased by +15 percentage points.
