The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 33%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, bituminous mixtures exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated mild growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.6% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +118.5% against 2015 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 41%. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in the near future.

In 2021, Belgium (X tons) represented the key exporter of bituminous mixtures, committing 66% of total exports. It was distantly followed by the Netherlands (X tons), generating a 33% share of total exports.

Belgium was also the fastest-growing in terms of the bituminous mixtures exports, with a CAGR of +9.8% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, the Netherlands (+2.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Belgium increased by +15 percentage points.

In general, imports, however, saw a noticeable reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 41% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2021, the Netherlands (X tons) represented the main importer of bituminous mixtures, constituting 57% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Belgium (X tons) and Luxembourg (X tons), together achieving a 43% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Belgium (with a CAGR of +4.9%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.

In value terms, the Netherlands ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported bituminous mixtures in Benelux, comprising 70% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Belgium ($X), with a 20% share of total imports.
