In 2022, the Benelux butter and dairy spreads market increased by 249% to $X, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. Overall, consumption, however, recorded a slight contraction. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +49.3% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 47% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.

In 2022, the Netherlands (X tons) represented the major exporter of butter and dairy spreads, constituting 68% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Belgium (X tons), generating a 32% share of total exports.

The Netherlands was also the fastest-growing in terms of the butter and dairy spreads exports, with a CAGR of +3.6% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Belgium (+2.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. After two years of growth, purchases abroad of butter and dairy spreads decreased by -7.1% to X tons in 2022. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 13% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.
