Spacecraft Market Size in Benelux

The Benelux spacecraft market soared to $X in 2022, jumping by 667% against the previous year. In general, consumption, however, showed significant growth. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, consumption failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, spacecraft production skyrocketed to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. In general, production continues to indicate significant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 15,643% against the previous year. The level of production peaked at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports in Benelux

For the third year in a row, Benelux recorded growth in overseas shipments of civil spacecraft, satellites and launch vehicles, which increased by 36% to X units in 2022. In general, exports showed significant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when exports increased by 1,183%. The volume of export peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

In value terms, spacecraft exports soared to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, recorded a abrupt downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 5,812%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

The Netherlands represented the major exporting country with an export of around X units, which finished at 88% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Belgium (X units), achieving a 12% share of total exports.

The Netherlands was also the fastest-growing in terms of the civil spacecraft, satellites and launch vehicles exports, with a CAGR of +67.2% from 2013 to 2022. Belgium (-4.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of the Netherlands (+83 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2013-2022, the share of Belgium (-83.4 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, the Netherlands ($X) remains the largest spacecraft supplier in Benelux, comprising 32% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Belgium ($X), with an 11% share of total exports.

From 2013 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in the Netherlands amounted to +40.2%.

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in Benelux amounted to $X per unit, picking up by 22% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, faced a sharp decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the export price increased by 361%. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($X per unit), while the Netherlands amounted to $X per unit.

From 2013 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (-16.2%).

Imports in Benelux

In 2022, imports of civil spacecraft, satellites and launch vehicles in Benelux shrank notably to X units, waning by -82.8% on the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw significant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 6,883% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, spacecraft imports fell significantly to $X in 2022. In general, imports showed a precipitous slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 65,949%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then contracted remarkably in the following year.

Imports by Country

Belgium represented the main importing country with an import of about X units, which finished at 74% of total imports. It was distantly followed by the Netherlands (X units) and Luxembourg (X units), together making up a 26% share of total imports.

Belgium was also the fastest-growing in terms of the civil spacecraft, satellites and launch vehicles imports, with a CAGR of +95.6% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, the Netherlands (+13.5%) and Luxembourg (+11.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Belgium (+74 p.p.) and the Netherlands (+21 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Luxembourg saw its share reduced by -94.9% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.

In value terms, Luxembourg ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported civil spacecraft, satellites and launch vehicles in Benelux, comprising 99% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by the Netherlands ($X), with a 0.3% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Luxembourg stood at -38.3%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the Netherlands (-27.9% per year) and Belgium (-20.7% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Benelux stood at $X per unit in 2022, dropping by -96.5% against the previous year. Overall, the import price saw a precipitous descent. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum at $X per unit in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Luxembourg ($X per unit), while Belgium ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
