The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 69%. The volume of export peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, coffee extract exports expanded notably to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +3.8% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 27%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

The Netherlands represented the major exporter of coffee extracts, essences and concentrates in Benelux, with the volume of exports resulting at X tons, which was near 75% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Belgium (X tons), creating a 25% share of total exports.

Total imports indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.3% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +80.9% against 2015 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when imports increased by 36% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, coffee extract imports surged to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a measured increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.5% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +26.3% against 2018 indices. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

In 2021, the Netherlands (X tons) was the key importer of coffee extracts, essences and concentrates, achieving 74% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Belgium (X tons), creating a 24% share of total imports. Luxembourg (X tons) held a relatively small share of total imports.

The Netherlands was also the fastest-growing in terms of the coffee extracts, essences and concentrates imports, with a CAGR of +9.3% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Luxembourg (+2.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Belgium experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. From 2012 to 2021, the share of the Netherlands increased by +16 percentage points. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
