The Benelux crabs, not frozen market was estimated at less than $X in 2022, remaining constant against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption, however, recorded a pronounced shrinkage. In 2016, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of crabs, not frozen, when their volume decreased by -21.2% to X tons. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a remarkable increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 75% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons, and then declined sharply in the following year.

In value terms, crabs, not frozen exports fell notably to $X in 2016. Over the period under review, exports saw a mild setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when exports increased by 83% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X, and then fell markedly in the following year.

The Netherlands dominates exports structure, reaching X tons, which was approx. 92% of total exports in 2016. It was distantly followed by Belgium (X tons), constituting a 7.3% share of total exports.

The Netherlands was also the fastest-growing in terms of the crabs, not frozen exports, with a CAGR of +7.2% from 2012 to 2016. At the same time, Belgium (+5.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. While the share of the Netherlands (+1.7 p.p.) increased significantly, the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the Netherlands ($X) remains the largest crabs, not frozen supplier in Benelux, comprising 95% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Belgium ($X), with a 3.1% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2016, the average annual growth rate of value in the Netherlands was relatively modest.

In 2016, the export price in Benelux amounted to $X per ton, surging by 2.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a deep slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when the export price increased by 4.6% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2016, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per ton), while Belgium totaled $X per ton.

Crabs, not frozen imports soared to X tons in 2016, increasing by 19% against the previous year. Total imports indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2016: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +13.6% over the last four-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2016 figures, imports increased by +72.7% against 2013 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of 22% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked in 2016 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, crabs, not frozen imports skyrocketed to $X in 2016. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate significant growth. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

The Netherlands (X tons) and Belgium (X tons) dominates imports structure, together generating 95% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Luxembourg (X tons), generating a 5.2% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2016, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by the Netherlands (with a CAGR of +14.9%), while imports for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.

In value terms, the largest crabs, not frozen importing markets in Benelux were Belgium ($X), the Netherlands ($X) and Luxembourg ($X).

The Netherlands, with a CAGR of +29.9%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.

The import price in Benelux stood at $X per ton in 2016, increasing by 22% against the previous year. Import price indicated buoyant growth from 2012 to 2016: its price increased at an average annual rate of +11.1% over the last four years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2016 figures, crabs, not frozen import price increased by +52.3% against 2012 indices. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($X per ton), while Luxembourg ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
