Curtains Market Size in Benelux

The Benelux curtains market rose to $X in 2022, growing by 2.9% against the previous year. The market value increased at an average annual rate of +1.7% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The level of consumption peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

In value terms, curtains production fell to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Overall, production, however, continues to indicate a moderate increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the production volume increased by 160%. Over the period under review, production reached the peak level at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports in Benelux

After two years of growth, shipments abroad of curtains and interior blinds decreased by -52.9% to X square meters in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, posted slight growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 81% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X square meters in 2021, and then dropped rapidly in the following year.

In value terms, curtains exports reduced markedly to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 45% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2021, and then fell significantly in the following year.

Exports by Country

In 2022, the Netherlands (X square meters) represented the main exporter of curtains and interior blinds, committing 84% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Belgium (X square meters), achieving a 13% share of total exports. Luxembourg (X square meters) followed a long way behind the leaders.

The Netherlands was also the fastest-growing in terms of the curtains and interior blinds exports, with a CAGR of +8.7% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Luxembourg (+6.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Belgium (-11.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. The Netherlands (+41 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Belgium saw its share reduced by -41.9% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the Netherlands ($X) remains the largest curtains supplier in Benelux, comprising 85% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Belgium ($X), with a 12% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in the Netherlands stood at +4.2%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Belgium (-11.0% per year) and Luxembourg (+6.9% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in Benelux amounted to $X per square meter, jumping by 25% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a slight contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 an increase of 27% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per square meter. From 2016 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per square meter), while Luxembourg ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.

Imports in Benelux

After six years of growth, overseas purchases of curtains and interior blinds decreased by -21% to X square meters in 2022. In general, imports, however, showed a notable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 36%. The volume of import peaked at X square meters in 2021, and then contracted notably in the following year.

In value terms, curtains imports fell notably to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated tangible growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 19% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then contracted sharply in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2022, the Netherlands (X square meters) represented the main importer of curtains and interior blinds, achieving 73% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Belgium (X square meters), making up a 25% share of total imports. Luxembourg (X square meters) took a relatively small share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to curtains imports into the Netherlands stood at +6.0%. At the same time, Luxembourg (+6.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Luxembourg emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Benelux, with a CAGR of +6.4% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Belgium (-3.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period.
