In value terms, crane exports fell markedly to $X in 2022. In general, exports showed a slight decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 50% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X, and then reduced dramatically in the following year.

In 2022, the Netherlands (X units) was the major exporter of derricks, cranes, mobile lifting frames, straddle carriers and work trucks fitted with a crane, making up 70% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Belgium (X units), making up a 30% share of total exports.

The Netherlands was also the fastest-growing in terms of the derricks, cranes, mobile lifting frames, straddle carriers and work trucks fitted with a crane exports, with a CAGR of +2.3% from 2012 to 2022. Belgium (-5.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. The Netherlands (+19 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Belgium saw its share reduced by -19.6% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 70%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X units in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, crane imports declined to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a perceptible increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +35.4% against 2018 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 59%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2021, and then reduced modestly in the following year.

In 2022, the Netherlands (X units) represented the key importer of derricks, cranes, mobile lifting frames, straddle carriers and work trucks fitted with a crane, committing 59% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Belgium (X units), making up a 37% share of total imports. Luxembourg (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for the Netherlands (with a CAGR of +10.5%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.

The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the import price increased by 19%. Over the period under review, import prices reached the maximum at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per unit), while Belgium ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
