In 2021, the Benelux dolomite market decreased by -1.5% to $X, falling for the fourth consecutive year after four years of growth. Dolomite exports soared to X tons in 2021, picking up by 25% compared with 2020. In general, exports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, dolomite exports surged to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Belgium prevails in exports structure, amounting to X tons, which was approx. 91% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by the Netherlands (X tons), creating a 9.2% share of total exports.
Belgium experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of dolomite. At the same time, the Netherlands (+1.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the Netherlands emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Benelux, with a CAGR of +1.8% from 2012-2021. The shares of the largest exporters remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Belgium ($X) and the Netherlands ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021.

The export price in Benelux stood at $X per ton in 2021, remaining stable against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.3%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 12% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per ton), while Belgium totaled $X per ton.

Imports in Benelux
After two years of decline, purchases abroad of dolomite increased by 2.8% to X tons in 2021. In general, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 59%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, dolomite imports rose markedly to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 25% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
The Netherlands was the largest importer of dolomite in Benelux, with the volume of imports amounting to X tons, which was approx. 86% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Belgium (X tons), committing an 11% share of total imports. Luxembourg (X tons) took a relatively small share of total imports.
The Netherlands was also the fastest-growing in terms of the dolomite imports, with a CAGR of +1.0% from 2012 to 2021. Belgium (-5.7%) and Luxembourg (-10.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of the Netherlands (+11 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Luxembourg (-4.3 p.p.) and Belgium (-6.8 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
In value terms, the Netherlands ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported dolomite in Benelux, comprising 78% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Belgium ($X), with a 20% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in the Netherlands stood at +4.7%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Belgium (-3.8% per year) and Luxembourg (-8.7% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Benelux stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 6.6% against the previous year. Import price indicated a pronounced increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, dolomite import price increased by +62.6% against 2014 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the import price increased by 24% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($X per ton), while the Netherlands ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
