Dry Bean Market Size in Benelux

In 2022, the Benelux dry bean market decreased by -30.9% to $X for the first time since 2017, thus ending a four-year rising trend. Overall, consumption, however, showed a prominent increase. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2021, and then fell markedly in the following year.

Overall, exports, however, saw a slight increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by 71%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2021, and then reduced dramatically in the following year.

In value terms, dry bean exports shrank sharply to $X in 2022. Total exports indicated a moderate expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 60% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2021, and then shrank notably in the following year.

In 2022, the Netherlands (X tons) represented the key exporter of beans (dry), creating 69% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Belgium (X tons), constituting a 31% share of total exports.

The Netherlands was also the fastest-growing in terms of the beans (dry) exports, with a CAGR of +3.7% from 2012 to 2022. Belgium (-2.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. The Netherlands (+15 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Belgium saw its share reduced by -13.7% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.
