The Benelux duck and goose meat market expanded markedly to $X in 2022, with an increase of 6.7% against the previous year. Overall, consumption, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. In 2022, purchases abroad of duck and goose meat increased by 4.1% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.6% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 42%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports into Belgium increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, the Netherlands (+5.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the Netherlands emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Benelux, with a CAGR of +5.4% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Luxembourg (-2.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. The Netherlands (+7 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Luxembourg and Belgium saw its share reduced by -1.8% and -5.3% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.

In value terms, Belgium ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported duck and goose meat in Benelux, comprising 72% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the Netherlands ($X), with a 23% share of total imports.

In Belgium, duck and goose meat imports shrank by an average annual rate of -1.7% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the Netherlands (+1.8% per year) and Luxembourg (-2.1% per year).
