In 2022, the Benelux durum wheat market decreased by -19.5% to $X for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Overall, consumption saw a noticeable decrease. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, consumption failed to regain momentum.

The average durum wheat yield stood at X tons per ha in 2022, increasing by 5.6% against the previous year's figure. In general, the yield, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 52% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, durum wheat exports dropped rapidly to $X in 2022. In general, exports saw a abrupt setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 65% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

The Netherlands (X tons) and Belgium (X tons) prevails in exports structure, together committing 98% of total exports. Luxembourg (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2021, and then fell remarkably in the following year.

In value terms, durum wheat imports dropped notably to $X in 2022. Overall, imports saw a abrupt shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 56%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2021, and then contracted markedly in the following year.
