Exports in Benelux

In 2022, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in shipments abroad of filter blocks, slabs and plates of paper pulp, when their volume increased by 32% to X tons. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a perceptible slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 97% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, filter block exports soared to $X in 2022. Overall, exports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when exports increased by 94% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Belgium (X tons) and the Netherlands (X tons) dominates exports structure, together committing 98% of total exports. Luxembourg (X tons) took a relatively small share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by Luxembourg (with a CAGR of +0.4%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the exports figures.

In value terms, the Netherlands ($X), Belgium ($X) and Luxembourg ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, with a combined 99.9% share of total exports.

Luxembourg, with a CAGR of +6.8%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Benelux stood at $X per ton in 2022, dropping by -10.8% against the previous year. Export price indicated noticeable growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, filter block export price decreased by -22.2% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 44% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Luxembourg ($X per ton), while Belgium ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Luxembourg (+6.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, purchases abroad of filter blocks, slabs and plates of paper pulp increased by 9.4% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. Overall, imports, however, recorded a abrupt curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 15%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, filter block imports declined notably to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, saw a deep reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 25%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

Belgium (X tons) and the Netherlands (X tons) prevails in imports structure, together generating 98% of total imports. Luxembourg (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Belgium (with a CAGR of +2.8%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline in the imports figures.

In value terms, the largest filter block importing markets in Benelux were Belgium ($X), the Netherlands ($X) and Luxembourg ($X).

Among the main importing countries, Belgium, with a CAGR of +4.1%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline in the imports figures.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Benelux stood at $X per ton in 2022, which is down by -22.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, enjoyed buoyant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the import price increased by 54%. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2021, and then shrank remarkably in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Luxembourg ($X per ton), while the Netherlands ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+13.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
