Exports by Country
Belgium was the key exporting country with an export of around X tons, which accounted for 61% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Luxembourg (X tons) and the Netherlands (X tons), together mixing up a 39% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to flat glass exports from Belgium stood at -3.9%. Luxembourg (-2.9%) and the Netherlands (-8.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Belgium and Luxembourg increased by +3.8 and +3.4 percentage points, respectively.
In value terms, Belgium ($X) remains the largest flat glass supplier in Benelux, comprising 66% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Luxembourg ($X), with a 23% share of total exports.

In 2021, the amount of flat glass imported in Benelux expanded sharply to X tons, surging by 5.5% against the previous year's figure. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 19%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, flat glass imports expanded sharply to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of import peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

The Netherlands (X tons) and Belgium (X tons) prevails in imports structure, together constituting 90% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Luxembourg (X tons), achieving a 9.7% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Luxembourg (with a CAGR of +12.3%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the Netherlands ($X), Belgium ($X) and Luxembourg ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together comprising 99.9% of total imports.
Luxembourg, with a CAGR of +10.8%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Benelux stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 8.6% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, saw a noticeable decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 13%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2021, the import prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Luxembourg ($X per ton), while Belgium ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
