Glass Closure Market Size in Benelux

The Benelux glass closure market contracted to $X in 2022, with a decrease of -2.1% against the previous year. In general, consumption, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X. From 2017 to 2022, the growth of the market remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2021, and then dropped rapidly in the following year.

The Netherlands represented the key exporting country with an export of about X tons, which accounted for 86% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Belgium (X tons), mixing up a 14% share of total exports.

The Netherlands was also the fastest-growing in terms of the glass stoppers, lids and other closures exports, with a CAGR of +8.6% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Belgium (+4.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. While the share of the Netherlands (+5.5 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Belgium (-5.5 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, the Netherlands ($X) remains the largest glass closure supplier in Benelux, comprising 78% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Belgium ($X), with a 22% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in the Netherlands stood at +13.5%.

The export price in Benelux stood at $X per ton in 2022, increasing by 1.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a pronounced increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the export price increased by 70%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2017 to 2022, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($X per ton), while the Netherlands stood at $X per ton.

Imports in Benelux

In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in supplies from abroad of glass stoppers, lids and other closures, when their volume decreased by -49.2% to X tons. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 144% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2021, and then contracted dramatically in the following year.

In value terms, glass closure imports dropped notably to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, recorded a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 230%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2021, and then fell remarkably in the following year.

Imports by Country

The Netherlands was the major importing country with an import of around X tons, which recorded 81% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Belgium (X tons), constituting a 19% share of total imports.

The Netherlands was also the fastest-growing in terms of the glass stoppers, lids and other closures imports, with a CAGR of +14.2% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Belgium (+7.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. While the share of the Netherlands (+10 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Belgium (-10.1 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
