The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +56.5% against 2015 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 29% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

In value terms, illuminated sign exports expanded markedly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports saw a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 52%. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in years to come.

In 2021, the Netherlands (X tons) was the key exporter of illuminated signs and illuminated name-plates, creating 69% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Belgium (X tons), comprising a 30% share of total exports. Luxembourg (X tons) took a little share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to illuminated sign exports from the Netherlands stood at +7.0%. At the same time, Luxembourg (+51.7%) and Belgium (+1.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 91% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

The Netherlands represented the largest importer of illuminated signs and illuminated name-plates in Benelux, with the volume of imports amounting to X tons, which was approx. 68% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Belgium (X tons), making up a 29% share of total imports. Luxembourg (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

The Netherlands was also the fastest-growing in terms of the illuminated signs and illuminated name-plates imports, with a CAGR of +4.1% from 2012 to 2021. Luxembourg (-1.5%) and Belgium (-6.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of the Netherlands (+23 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Belgium (-22.9 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in the Netherlands totaled +8.5%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Belgium (-1.6% per year) and Luxembourg (+6.7% per year).

Based on 2021 figures, illuminated sign import price increased by +22.6% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the import price increased by 47% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.
