Linseed Production in Benelux

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 43% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, linseed exports declined to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when exports increased by 49% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.

In 2022, Belgium (X tons) represented the largest exporter of linseed, creating 79% of total exports. It was distantly followed by the Netherlands (X tons), constituting a 21% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to linseed exports from Belgium stood at -3.1%. The Netherlands experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. The Netherlands (+4.4 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Belgium saw its share reduced by -4.4% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.

In 2022, supplies from abroad of linseed decreased by -15.3% to X tons, falling for the second consecutive year after three years of growth. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a mild setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 22%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, linseed imports shrank modestly to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated moderate growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +86.9% against 2017 indices.
