Belgium represented the main exporting country with an export of around X tons, which resulted at 73% of total exports. It was distantly followed by the Netherlands (X tons), achieving a 27% share of total exports.

Belgium experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of other cyclic hydrocarbons. At the same time, the Netherlands (+1.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the Netherlands emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Benelux, with a CAGR of +1.5% from 2012-2021. While the share of the Netherlands (+2.5 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Belgium (-2.5 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Belgium ($X) remains the largest cyclic hydrocarbons supplier in Benelux, comprising 77% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the Netherlands ($X), with a 23% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Belgium totaled +2.2%.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Benelux amounted to $X per ton, surging by 31% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.5%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the export price increased by 34% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($X per ton), while the Netherlands stood at $X per ton.

Imports in Benelux

In 2021, overseas purchases of other cyclic hydrocarbons decreased by -19.3% to X tons, falling for the second year in a row after four years of growth. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw prominent growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by 121% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, cyclic hydrocarbons imports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, enjoyed a prominent increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by 86%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Imports by Country

The Netherlands represented the main importer of other cyclic hydrocarbons in Benelux, with the volume of imports recording X tons, which was near 83% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Belgium (X tons), generating a 17% share of total imports.

The Netherlands was also the fastest-growing in terms of the other cyclic hydrocarbons imports, with a CAGR of +14.6% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Belgium (+2.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. From 2012 to 2021, the share of the Netherlands increased by +19 percentage points.

In value terms, the Netherlands ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported other cyclic hydrocarbons in Benelux, comprising 70% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Belgium ($X), with a 30% share of total imports.

In the Netherlands, cyclic hydrocarbons imports expanded at an average annual rate of +8.7% over the period from 2012-2021.

The import price in Benelux stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 66% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, recorded a pronounced setback.
