Playing Cards Market Size in Benelux

The Benelux playing cards market declined rapidly to $X in 2022, dropping by -45.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption, however, showed notable growth. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X, and then dropped remarkably in the following year.

Playing Cards Production in Benelux

In value terms, playing cards production rose markedly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. The total production indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, production decreased by -8.3% against 2020 indices. After two years of growth, overseas shipments of playing cards decreased by -30.7% to X tons in 2022. Overall, exports, however, recorded prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 97% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2021, and then fell rapidly in the following year.

In value terms, playing cards exports shrank dramatically to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, enjoyed buoyant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when exports increased by 161%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2021, and then shrank remarkably in the following year.

Exports by Country

Belgium represented the major exporting country with an export of around X tons, which accounted for 65% of total exports. It was distantly followed by the Netherlands (X tons), creating a 34% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by the Netherlands (with a CAGR of +24.4%).

In value terms, the largest playing cards supplying countries in Benelux were Belgium ($X) and the Netherlands ($X).

The Netherlands, with a CAGR of +23.2%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Benelux stood at $X per ton in 2022, picking up by 11% against the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded a mild increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 33%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per ton), while Belgium stood at $X per ton.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belgium (-0.3%).

Imports in Benelux

After six years of growth, purchases abroad of playing cards decreased by -30.2% to X tons in 2022. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 131% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons, and then declined rapidly in the following year.

In value terms, playing cards imports dropped dramatically to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 210%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2021, and then dropped notably in the following year.

Imports by Country

The Netherlands was the largest importing country with an import of about X tons, which resulted at 72% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Belgium (X tons), constituting a 25% share of total imports. Luxembourg (X tons) took a relatively small share of total imports.

Imports into the Netherlands increased at an average annual rate of +17.0% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Luxembourg (+29.8%) and Belgium (+7.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Luxembourg emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Benelux, with a CAGR of +29.8% from 2012-2022. From 2012 to 2022, the share of the Netherlands and Luxembourg increased by +17 and +2.5 percentage points, respectively.

In value terms, the Netherlands ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported playing cards in Benelux, comprising 66% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Belgium ($X), with a 27% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in the Netherlands stood at +27.6%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Belgium (+11.0% per year) and Luxembourg (+30.7% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Benelux stood at $X per ton in 2022, surging by 20% against the previous year. Import price indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, playing cards import price decreased by -3.2% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the import price increased by 58%. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Luxembourg ($X per ton), while the Netherlands ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+9.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
