From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by the Netherlands (with a CAGR of +2.4%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.
In value terms, the Netherlands ($X) remains the largest prefabricated buildings supplier in Benelux, comprising 66% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Belgium ($X), with a 30% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in the Netherlands stood at +6.5%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Belgium (+3.7% per year) and Luxembourg (+1.0% per year).

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 23% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2021, and then declined sharply in the following year.
In value terms, prefabricated buildings imports shrank remarkably to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, saw prominent growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 28%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then shrank dramatically in the following year.
Imports by Country
The Netherlands represented the key importer of prefabricated buildings in Benelux, with the volume of imports amounting to X units, which was approx. 73% of total imports in 2022. Belgium (X units) took a 22% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Luxembourg (5.8%).
The Netherlands was also the fastest-growing in terms of the prefabricated buildings imports, with a CAGR of +10.6% from 2012 to 2022. Belgium (-4.0%) and Luxembourg (-4.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. The Netherlands (+33 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Luxembourg and Belgium saw its share reduced by -7% and -26.4% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.
In value terms, the Netherlands ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported prefabricated buildings in Benelux, comprising 75% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Belgium ($X), with an 18% share of total imports.
In the Netherlands, prefabricated buildings imports increased at an average annual rate of +16.1% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Belgium (-1.5% per year) and Luxembourg (+3.0% per year).
Import Prices by Country
