In 2021, the Benelux cows skin market was finally on the rise to reach $X for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. In 2021, Belgium (X tons) was the key exporter of raw hides and skins of bovine animals, making up 72% of total exports. It was distantly followed by the Netherlands (X tons), generating a 27% share of total exports. Luxembourg (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to cows skin exports from Belgium stood at -4.4%. At the same time, Luxembourg (+4.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Luxembourg emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Benelux, with a CAGR of +4.5% from 2012-2021. In 2021, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in supplies from abroad of raw hides and skins of bovine animals, when their volume increased by 111% to X tons. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a sharp decline. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, cows skin imports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, imports showed a modest increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 111% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

The countries with the highest levels of cows skin imports in 2021 were the Netherlands (X tons) and Belgium (X tons), together resulting at 99.9% of total import.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Belgium (with a CAGR of +27.0%).

In value terms, the Netherlands ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported raw hides and skins of bovine animals in Benelux, comprising 92% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Belgium ($X), with a 7.5% share of total imports.
