The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.6% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, sauce and seasoning exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated a noticeable increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.9% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +81.4% against 2015 indices. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In 2021, the Netherlands (X tons) was the main exporter of sauces and seasonings, creating 68% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Belgium (X tons), mixing up a 32% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to sauce and seasoning exports from the Netherlands stood at +3.6%. At the same time, Belgium (+7.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Belgium emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Benelux, with a CAGR of +7.1% from 2012-2021. While the share of Belgium (+6.1 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of the Netherlands (-6.1 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In terms of the main exporting countries, Belgium, with a CAGR of +6.4%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review.

The export price in Benelux stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 3.7% against the previous year. Overall, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 7.9%. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($X per ton), while the Netherlands amounted to $X per ton.

Imports in Benelux

In 2021, approx. X tons of sauces and seasonings were imported in Benelux; growing by 22% on the year before. Total imports indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.2% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +40.6% against 2014 indices. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Total imports indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.1% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +67.1% against 2015 indices. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

The Netherlands was the key importer of sauces and seasonings in Benelux, with the volume of imports resulting at X tons, which was near 66% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Belgium (X tons), achieving a 33% share of total imports. Luxembourg (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

The Netherlands was also the fastest-growing in terms of the sauces and seasonings imports, with a CAGR of +6.9% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Belgium (+5.1%) and Luxembourg (+2.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. The Netherlands (+4 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Belgium saw its share reduced by -3.3% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest sauce and seasoning importing markets in Benelux were the Netherlands ($X), Belgium ($X) and Luxembourg ($X), together comprising 99.9% of total imports.

The Netherlands, with a CAGR of +6.7%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Benelux stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 1.7% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the import price increased by 5.5%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2021, the import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Luxembourg ($X per ton), while the Netherlands ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Luxembourg (+1.7%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
