The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when exports increased by 45% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, shelled hazelnut exports rose markedly to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +2.0% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 37% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

The Netherlands dominates exports structure, reaching X tons, which was approx. 91% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Belgium (X tons), committing a 9.1% share of total exports.

The Netherlands was also the fastest-growing in terms of the shelled hazelnuts exports, with a CAGR of +1.7% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Belgium (+1.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. The shares of the largest exporters remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the Netherlands ($X) remains the largest shelled hazelnut supplier in Benelux, comprising 90% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Belgium ($X), with a 9.6% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in the Netherlands amounted to +2.0%.

The export price in Benelux stood at $X per ton in 2021, leveling off at the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. In 2021, the amount of shelled hazelnuts imported in Benelux surged to X tons, growing by 15% against the year before. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a pronounced decline. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, shelled hazelnut imports rose sharply to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, saw a perceptible descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 35%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when the import price increased by 47% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($X per ton), while the Netherlands stood at $X per ton.
