In 2022, the Benelux grape wine spirits market increased by 26% to $X for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. In general, consumption, however, recorded a pronounced downturn. In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in supplies from abroad of spirits obtained from distilled grape wine or grape marc, when their volume decreased by -5.2% to X litres. Overall, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 44% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X litres in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.

In value terms, grape wine spirits imports declined to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a pronounced slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 18% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

The Netherlands was the major importing country with an import of around X litres, which recorded 67% of total imports. Belgium (X litres) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 28% share, followed by Luxembourg (5.5%).
