Total exports indicated a resilient expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.7% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +78.5% against 2012 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when exports increased by 24% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

The Netherlands was the main exporter of textile products and articles for technical uses in Benelux, with the volume of exports reaching X tons, which was near 64% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Belgium (X tons), comprising a 36% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by the Netherlands (with a CAGR of +17.8%).

Total imports indicated prominent growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.1% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +84.8% against 2015 indices. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, technical textiles imports soared to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +4.9% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 19%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

The Netherlands represented the key importing country with an import of about X tons, which reached 71% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Belgium (X tons), committing a 28% share of total imports.

At the same time, Belgium (+4.2%) displayed positive paces of growth.
