In 2022, the Netherlands (X tons) represented the major exporter of vegetable products, generating 81% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Belgium (X tons), making up a 19% share of total exports.

The Netherlands was also the fastest-growing in terms of the vegetable products exports, with a CAGR of +8.2% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Belgium (+3.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. While the share of the Netherlands (+7.8 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Belgium (-7.8 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, the Netherlands ($X) remains the largest vegetable product supplier in Benelux, comprising 86% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Belgium ($X), with a 14% share of total exports.

In the Netherlands, vegetable product exports expanded at an average annual rate of +8.8% over the period from 2012-2022.

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in Benelux amounted to $X per ton, growing by 5.9% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when the export price increased by 54% against the previous year. In 2022, purchases abroad of vegetable products increased by 4.8% to X tons, rising for the third year in a row after three years of decline. Total imports indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +57.3% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 41% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, vegetable product imports shrank modestly to $X in 2022. In general, imports showed buoyant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 68%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2021, and then declined modestly in the following year.

Imports by Country

The Netherlands was the largest importer of vegetable products in Benelux, with the volume of imports resulting at X tons, which was approx. 79% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Belgium (X tons), committing a 20% share of total imports.

The Netherlands was also the fastest-growing in terms of the vegetable products imports, with a CAGR of +6.9% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Belgium (+1.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. While the share of the Netherlands (+9.9 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Belgium (-10.5 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, the Netherlands ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported vegetable products in Benelux, comprising 92% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Belgium ($X), with a 6.9% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in the Netherlands totaled +15.6%.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in Benelux amounted to $X per ton, which is down by -5.2% against the previous year. Import price indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +7.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, vegetable product import price increased by +67.8% against 2017 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when the import price increased by 32%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton, and then declined in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per ton), while Belgium amounted to $X per ton.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+8.2%).
