In 2022, the Benelux vinegar-preserved vegetable market decreased by -13.4% to $X for the first time since 2017, thus ending a four-year rising trend. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, vinegar-preserved vegetable exports shrank sharply to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 17%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X, and then shrank markedly in the following year.

Exports by Country

In 2022, the Netherlands (X tons) was the key exporter of vegetables in vinegar other than potatoes, committing 83% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Belgium (X tons), creating a 17% share of total exports.

The Netherlands experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of vegetables in vinegar other than potatoes. Belgium (-8.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. The Netherlands (+15 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Belgium saw its share reduced by -14.7% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.

In value terms, the Netherlands ($X) remains the largest vinegar-preserved vegetable supplier in Benelux, comprising 87% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Belgium ($X), with a 13% share of total exports.

In the Netherlands, vinegar-preserved vegetable exports expanded at an average annual rate of +2.9% over the period from 2012-2022.

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in Benelux amounted to $X per ton, declining by -13.7% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.0%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the export price increased by 15%. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2021, and then declined in the following year.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per ton), while Belgium stood at $X per ton.

Imports in Benelux

After six years of growth, supplies from abroad of vegetables in vinegar other than potatoes decreased by -20.5% to X tons in 2022. Overall, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 11%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2021, and then declined significantly in the following year.

In value terms, vinegar-preserved vegetable imports contracted markedly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 14% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then contracted significantly in the following year.

Imports by Country

The Netherlands represented the key importing country with an import of around X tons, which reached 78% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Belgium (X tons), comprising a 20% share of total imports. Luxembourg (X tons) took a relatively small share of total imports.

Imports into the Netherlands increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Luxembourg (+1.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Luxembourg emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Benelux, with a CAGR of +1.7% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Belgium (-3.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. The Netherlands (+8.2 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Belgium saw its share reduced by -8.5% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the Netherlands ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported vegetables in vinegar other than potatoes in Benelux, comprising 69% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Belgium ($X), with a 28% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in the Netherlands totaled +1.3%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Belgium (-1.0% per year) and Luxembourg (+4.3% per year).

Import Prices by Country
