The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +62.3% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 34% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in years to come.

In 2022, the Netherlands (X square meters) was the main importer of veneer sheets and sheets for plywood and other wood sawn lengthwise, mixing up 75% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Belgium (X square meters), creating a 25% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to veneer sheet imports into the Netherlands stood at +11.5%. At the same time, Belgium (+15.7%) displayed positive paces of growth.
