Yoghurt Market Size in Benelux

The Benelux yoghurt market expanded markedly to $X in 2022, rising by 9.2% against the previous year. In general, consumption saw a strong increase. Over the period under review, the market reached the peak level at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, yoghurt production contracted slightly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Overall, production, however, posted a significant increase. In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in shipments abroad of yoghurt, when their volume decreased by -21.8% to X tons. In general, exports, however, saw notable growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 76%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons, and then fell rapidly in the following year.

Exports by Country

Belgium represented the major exporter of yoghurt in Benelux, with the volume of exports finishing at X tons, which was approx. 63% of total exports in 2022. The Netherlands (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 23% share, followed by Luxembourg (14%).

Exports from Belgium increased at an average annual rate of +3.3% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, the Netherlands (+7.5%) and Luxembourg (+4.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the Netherlands emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Benelux, with a CAGR of +7.5% from 2012-2022. The Netherlands (+6.1 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Belgium saw its share reduced by -6% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in Benelux amounted to $X per ton, remaining stable against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.7%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 an increase of 21% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Luxembourg ($X per ton), while Belgium ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Luxembourg (+3.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Benelux

After four years of growth, supplies from abroad of yoghurt decreased by -0.5% to X tons in 2022. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.7% from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when imports increased by 6.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2021, and then declined in the following year.

The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% over the period from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Imports by Country

The Netherlands (X tons) and Belgium (X tons) prevails in imports structure, together generating 96% of total imports. Luxembourg (X tons) took a relatively small share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Luxembourg (with a CAGR of +5.5%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest yoghurt importing markets in Benelux were the Netherlands ($X), Belgium ($X) and Luxembourg ($X).
